Natural cures for Depression
I think I have mild to moderate Depression. I take a few types of natural supplements, for my treatment for Depression. In my country, unless you are clinically depressed, one can’t get over-the-counter medication.
So these are the natural supplements for Depression I’m on. Based on my therapist’s recommendation and my own research. The list below is the EXACT ones I am on right now.
St. John’s Wort
For: Depression
I’m currently on Holista® St. John’s Wort, 300 mg, 60 Capsules. But I had to hunt high and low; it’s not commonly found here. Maybe next time I will try buying it online instead.
I honestly don’t know St John’s Wort effects on me yet, will update after I try it out for a suitable amount of time. Fingers crossed on its effectiveness!!!
Vitamin B12
For: Energy
Why I decided on Enzymatic Therapy B-12 Infusion: it comes in the form of Methylcobalamin.
These Vitamin B12 tablets are really easy to eat; they come in cherry-flavoured chewable tablet form. I usually let it dissolve under my tongue.
Folic Acid
For: Healthy Nervous System
My mom bought this for me Solgar Folic Acid Tablets, 800 mcg, because she not-so-secretly hopes I get pregnant soon. And this is apparently good for mothers-to-be.
I read up and found out Folic Acid goes hand in hand with Vitamin B12!
Folic acid, known as folate in its natural form, is one of the B-group vitamins. Folic acid has several important functions. For example, it:
- works together with vitamin B12 to form healthy red blood cells
- helps to reduce the risk of central nervous system defects, such as spina bifida, in unborn babies

Just thought to throw this in for good measure for all the girls…
Evening Primrose Oil (to be taken daily to alleviate menstrual cramps during that time of the month)
Evening Primrose Oil
For: Menstrual cramp relief
I’ve been taking Evening Primrose Oil for a good number of years. It has helped me reduce painful menstrual cramps greatly! I’ve taken quite a few brands of Evening Primrose over the years. I’m currently on NOW Foods Super Primrose 1300Mg, 120 Softgels.
If you have not tried this, it’s pretty miraculous. If you have painful periods, try it and see if it works for you.
How are you coping with Depression? Are you also using Depression self help methods? Would love to find out the different ways people use natural remedies for Depression as opposed to anti-depressants/medication…
